It is days to the wedding and you and your groom-to-be are fighting like crazy about everything. Like me, you are perhaps wondering, why the hell am I getting married if we can’t agree on anything? Don’t panic, trust me, wedding fights are quite common.
It’s perfectly normal to be at each other’s throat weeks, even days, before the wedding... seriously, nothing’s wrong with you.
Picture this: the night of before my wedding, I was giving instructions to the bridal party during rehearsals. In the middle of my well-planned spiel on how we’ll march down the aisle, my fiancé suddenly snapped, “Do we really have to do all this now?” I tried to wrap it up quickly, but under the feigned calm, I was fuming. I said nothing, but I stormed off as soon as I was done.
He walked behind me asking a question that I refused to answer until he growled, “Lecia, I am speaking to you!” Not wanting to create a scene in front of the wedding party, I stopped and listened. By this time I was blowing steam. After he was done, I stormed off almost knocking over my dear friend who was only trying to get a photo.
Truth is, this was just one of many fights that we had leading up to the wedding! And, unless you are saints, you will have wedding fights too!
You don’t give a F*&%k about our wedding
Usually, it’s the bride who is accusing the man of not giving a hoot, but in my case, it was the opposite!
Here’s how it started: I naively planned our wedding one month after my final exams. (Did I mention these were the bar exams?) I honestly did not realise that so much planning would be required in the heat of my exam preparations. So yes, you guessed it, I was MIA.
Thankfully, my amazing groom-to-be did all the planning and attended all the meetings in order to pull off a fabulous wedding. Fast forward to the climax. We are driving and he asks, "How do you feel about the wedding?" Now, this was really the stress talking, so I blurted out “I just want it to be over and done!” And then the argument started.
He launched into a tirade about how little I cared about our wedding. Do you even want to get married? He asked. And yes, it culminated in an all-out fight and an entire day of not speaking to each other. I did care, but I was tired, stressed and still wound up about the exams I had just finished. To top it off, there was also bridesmaid drama. I really wanted to just get married and be done with it.
However, hubby-to-be interpreted my frustration as indifference. In hindsight, I would have said, I can’t wait for the day, I’m so excited! Or, something to that effect, but, I was just tired.
Word of advice
If your man is not bursting with enthusiasm, say, about the colour of your bridal dresses, or wedding favours, cut him some slack. I bet my bottom dollar he does care. He really wants to marry you, but as the wedding draws nigh, he is just really stressed, nervous and tired... but he truly loves you.
To be continued...
I can relate to this oh so well….I had so many fights leading up to my wedding…it scared me had nd wondering if that Wats my marriage was gonna be like…..great job on your blog
Uhh sequel please… I got a lot riding on this! Lol… Another Great 1 that I enjoyed immensely!
Working on it!
my wedding was a month ago and I remember saying “I can’t wait for the day to come” and if I recall correctly my husband was saying the very same thing. But I agree if your husband-to-be does not seem as excited as you are that doesn’t mean he cares less about the wedding. Oh and yes you will be fighting a lot up to the day but its just stress so no need to worry.
